UNITY - symphony for people
about
The symphony "Unity" is a musical release and a response to the challenges of modern times, celebrating values that are profoundly needed in difficult periods – unity, tolerance, and understanding. This modern and epic work appeals to a broad audience with its form while maintaining a high level of artistic ambition. "Unity" was born from the idea of building relationships, finding a common language, and showcasing the power of teamwork. The composition carries a message of hope and community, bridging generations and inspiring the creation of a better future.
The symphony was commisioned in 2020 by the Wood and Brass Band youth orchestra from Goleniow (Poland), marking its 15th anniversary. It was written by Pawel Pudlo for a 90-piece symphony orchestra and choir, with the Wood and Brass Band as its core. The music conductor and project coordinator was Krzysztof Sypien.
"Unity" is more than just music – it is a universal message of hope, harmony, and collective action that unites generations and communities, continuously building bridges between people.
The realization of this project was a challenge – young musicians worked intensively for months, despite pandemic restrictions, to prepare for the recording and premiere concert. The recording sessions lasted seven days and took place in three different venues in Poland, with the participation of professional artists, including musicians from the Szczecin Philharmonic, the Opera at the Castle in Szczecin, faculty and students from the Academy of Art in Szczecin, as well as students from the Szczecin Music School.
The "Soli Deo" Choir from Szczecin and the "Tanowo Singing Brotherhood" were also invited to collaborate.
The premiere performance of the "Unity" symphony took place on September 4, 2021, at the stadium of the Sports and Recreation Center in Goleniow town (Poland). It received enthusiastic reviews, proving that music can inspire great achievements regardless of circumstances.

THE STORY TOLD THROUGH MUSIC
The symphony "Unity" takes listeners on an extraordinary journey, telling a story about the power of unity, collaboration, and overcoming adversity. The work reflects the challenges of our time – the pandemic, conflicts, and the need for collective action to build a better future.
Each of the six movements of the symphony reveals a new chapter of this narrative:
- There We Were. This powerful fanfare opens the work while introducing the main theme. This epic introduction serves as the musical foundation for the entire symphony. It also features 15 symbolic notes, paying homage to the 15th anniversary of the Wood and Brass Band, the orchestra for which the symphony was composed.
- Face to Face. This movement portrays an intense confrontation between two groups with opposing worldviews. In the music, this conflict is symbolized by the interplay between the female and male choirs, engaging in a dramatic dialogue.
- Game Changer. The emotional turning point of the symphony, this movement features an epic culmination of the main theme, representing the critical necessity for cooperation between previously opposing groups in the face of shared challenges. Composed during the first weeks of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, it captures the tension and uncertainty of that time.
- Here We Are. Dynamically echoing the first movement, this section narrates the process of forging an alliance, reflecting hope and determination.
- Covenant. This triumphant movement celebrates collaboration, showcasing mobilization, collective resilience, and the dispersal of darkness – symbolic of emotional burdens and adversity.
- Unity. The finale delivers an optimistic message. The diversity of people becomes a driving force for creating a colorful and harmonious world of the future. In this movement, the choirs sing as one, musically embodying the idea of unity.
The symphony "Unity" is a musical manifesto of harmonious community among people of diverse backgrounds. It reminds us that in challenging times, collaboration and mutual support not only enable survival but also lay the foundation for a better future. This work is a tribute to the human spirit and the boundless potential of creative cooperation.
